Nikki Haley, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said Monday that Russia is “never going to be our friend.”
“We don’t trust Russia. We don’t trust Putin. We never will. They’re never going to be our friend. That’s just a fact,” Haley told Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody.
President Trump has a different take. He has often said that it would be a good thing for the U.S. to get along with Russia. Prior to leaving for his meeting with Putin, he said he does not consider Putin an enemy.
“Hopefully, someday, maybe he’ll be a friend. It could happen,” Trump told reporters.
